Senior Network Engineer (Michaels Stores, Inc. – Irving, TX); Multiple positions available. Consult with business teams to understand requirements for new network builds. Provide Level of Effort estimates, hardware & software estimates and detail tasks lists to project managers to incorporate in their project plans and budgets. Perform network design and builds necessary to support project requirements while meeting approved project budgets and timelines. Provide peer reviews of builds performed by other engineers. Partner with support team to ensure new capabilities are smoothly integrated into established operational process including monitoring, backups, and failover/disaster recovery. Serve as point of escalation for complex systems issues. Review and analyze existing network infrastructure services for opportunities to reduce costs through removal of excess or inappropriate services. Partner with providers to ensure that data and voice network technology is positioned to meet current and anticipated demand for voice services. Position based in Irving, TX. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field and 5 years of experience in supporting network infrastructure environments. Must have 5 years of experience in each of the following: OSI layer 2 with experience in Spanning Tree, ARP, QoS, OTV, VDC, VPC, or similar; OSI layer 3 networks and protocols, including broadcast, multicast, any cast concepts, and routing; BGP & OSPF routing protocols and MPLS; Network security methodologies including ACLs, stateful firewalls, and VPNs; Network admin and intrusion detection tools such as Ethereal/Wireshark, Nmap, IPerf, NetFlow, Syslog, Radius, TACACS, SolarWinds, or similar; Aruba networking gear; and Cisco IOS & NX-OS Cisco routers, Nexus 7K/9K, Catalyst Switches, Wi-Fi, and ASA. Experience may be gained concurrently. Position based in Irving, TX. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.
