General Manager Boat Charter Company
Overview:
We are a medium-sized boat charter company on Lake Lewisville that offers tritoon boats, double decker tritoon boats with waterslides and Yachts for charter, captained by our licensed and trained captains.
The owner is looking for an individual to help manage the fleet and help with all day to day things. This individual would be a full time boat captain in the summer in addition to helping with maintaining the entire fleet (oil changes, impeller changes, lower unit oil changes, fixing things that break on the vessels).
We are also growing a small dealership side of the business where we fix up boats to sell so this individual would help with everything that this entails (fixing small mechanical issues, buffing, lake testing, boat showings to customers etc.).
What To Expect:
- This would be a salary full time year round position, with an expectation of more hours to be worked in summer months (50-60ish hours) and less hours to be worked in winter months (15-25ish hours). Annually we would expect this to fall to an average of 40 hours a week, it seems unlikely but if it ends up being more we will pay a bonus at the end of the year in accordance with the amount of hours worked extra.
- In peak summer months you would likely be captaining our largest vessels for 30-40 hours per week in addition to helping work on charter boats and dealership boats the remaining 10-20 hours.
- Summers must work almost every weekend (May-September) but in the off season the work schedule is much more relaxed and we could discuss what days would be best, there are a lot of options for off season hours including every other week.
Captain Role:
- Take customers swimming, tubing, wakeboarding, to party cove, sightseeing and generally show them a good time on Lake Lewisville
- Ensure customer safety at all times and enforce boat safety rules. Have the customers complete necessary documents such as waivers before each trip begins
Captain Requirements:
- Consistently work weekends May-September
- Our best captains are available every weekend in the summer months May-September including holidays, and most importantly June-August (peak summer season). We had 30 trips in April and 30 trips in October so working those months as well is still definitely needed for the highest achieving captains
- Weekends are a huge chunk of our business so the ideal candidates can work almost every weekend in the summer (Saturday and Sunday)
- Be able to work longer shifts on the weekends up to 12-14 hours, generally 5-12 hour shifts depending on how busy we are. Peak summer months Saturdays are usually 12 hour shifts (trips 9:30am-9:30pm) and Sundays 6-12 hour shifts
- Weekend shifts are always longer for the busiest 3-4 months and generally 5-12 hour shifts in the spring and fall. We also do several trips throughout the off season for those captains willing and available
- All of the vessels have bimini tops to provide you with shade
- We recommend captains bring small coolers with plenty of drinks, snacks and sunscreen
- Have some boating experience or operated a boat before
- We can teach you everything confidently, but it is preferred that you have at least some experience with boats or at the least an interest in them, this will make the learning process easier
- Must be personable, as a big part of the job is interacting with customers
- Must be authoritative when necessary to make sure customers are following the rules at all times for their own safety
- Have completed the Texas Boater Safety Course OR be willing to do so, it takes about 8 hours to complete but can be split up into chunks. We will pay the fee for you to take this
- Must be 21+ and able to lift a 20-30lb anchor
- Must be able to use their mobile device to download our app that organizes the trips and has important trip documents and information
- Must take safety extremely seriously as we expect all of our captains to prioritize safety at all times as this is the most important responsibility
- This is a unique job that can be a lot of fun. As long as our captains put customer safety first at all times we want them to have a good time with the customers and show them a great, safe time on the lake.
Mechanical/Dealership Requirements:
- Be handy mechanically
- Will be in charge of all the vessel basic maintenance (including but not limited to: oil changes, impeller changes, lower unit oil changes, buffing, fixing things that break on the vessels, boat interior remodeling, new basic audio systems, new basic lighting systems). Knowledge on these things is preferred, but the owner can train you on all of these things
- Depending on skill level may have you handle some more challenging problems (new shifting/steering cable, motor swaps, welding - aluminum and steel - etc.) Knowledge on these things is preferred, but the owner can train you on all of these things
- Any difficult problems we cannot solve we have a mechanic we trust to outsource these things to
- Help gas up the entire fleet of vessels
- Lake testing boats
- Showing dealership boats to customers
Salary and Benefits Expectations:
- Position starting at 60k-75k depending on skill level and hours agreed on
- Paid health insurance after a 3 month trial period as well as 401k match
- 3 weeks PTO after a 3 month trial period mostly to be taken in the off season
- Annual raises in accordance with performance
- Annual raises in accordance with inflation
- Company truck for work hours to start, with possibility of personal work truck down the road
- Free boat rides for you and friends/family
