job summary:

This position provides overall direction and leadership to the operational activities of the GNOC (Global Network Operations Center). To accomplish their primary goal of network monitoring and troubleshooting telecommunication, networks, and systems, NOC engineers perform several tasks. A NOC engineer ensures the smooth functioning of the network for business needs and keeps the downtime to a negligible level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of IT experience
  • 2+ years of Fortinet NSE4 firewall experience
  • Cisco CCNA Required / CCNP is preferred
  • Experience with monitoring and ticketing management systems, like PRTG and Service-Now
  • Good familiarity with firewalls, switches, and networking concepts
  • Must have demonstrated multiple project management skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, management, and customer
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and document new processes and improve where needed
  • Prior experience in working in a 24x7x365 Network Operations Centre
  • Certified with firewalls, switches, and networking concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to document processes

Task & Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities: Supporting the Network 24 x 7 command center; coordination of change management activities; incident resolution; command and coordination during major service Interruptions; ensuring notifications and updates; support to engineers; ongoing monitoring and logging consolidation; and completing detailed reviews for major network outages; ensure proper change management; execute problem management; service level management. The ideal candidate must have solid management skills and a track record for leading international teams in a highly technical, process-driven environment. In addition, quality control for new installations is the responsibility of the GNOC team lead.
  • Monitor Systems: monitor the performance and capability of networking systems using diversified tools. They figure out the malfunctioning of hardware, software, and environmental alerts. When a problem is recognized, NOC Engineers do the root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Troubleshoot Problems: work to triage or troubleshoot the issues, within the defined areas. NOCs generally have standard operating procedures (SOP) that the NOC engineer will closely follow. This may include coordinating with third-party vendors, customer contacts, or other IT teams for a holistic solution.
  • Tracking Issues: In response to incidents, the NOC engineer should carefully track and document all defects and resolutions in detail. This helps increase the expert base of NOC and helps maintain f the system's health record. Often, the NOC has a ticketing system that the NOC Engineer is accountable for updating.
  • Report Incidents: When the technical issues are complicated and need an immediate response or troubleshooting, NOC engineers must escalate the matter to management as per their SOP (Standard Operation Procedure). If need be, they can include the other IT resources, 3rd party or vendors for a faster resolution after obtaining the proper approvals. They maintain the appropriate communication channels within intra-teams or outside so that all stakeholders are kept informed ahead in a time-bound manner.
  • Execute Changes: assess, design, and implement changes based on requests from business in a secure way with minimum impact to the customer's operation.
