The Police Lieutenant plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety, fostering community trust, and leading the department towards achieving its strategic objectives. Performs administrative and supervisory law enforcement work for the Department of Police Services. Responsible for direction, planning, organizing, staffing, training, and control of all members under his/her command.Requisition ID:39367BRTravel Required:Up to 25%Major/Essential Functions:

Supervision and Leadership - Directly supervise sergeants, and support staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations. Ensure adequate patrol coverage and resource allocation.

Operational Management - Daily patrol operations, respond to major incidents and assume command in critical situations. Coordinate and manage crime scene operations, ensuring proper investigative procedures are followed.

Administrative Duties - Prepare, review, and approve reports, records, and departmental documentation. Manage division budgets, approve expenditures, and allocate resources effectively. Conduct internal investigations and handle disciplinary actions as needed.

Community Engagement - Foster positive relationships with community members, addressing concerns, and facilitating community outreach programs. Represent the police department at community meetings and events, promoting transparency and trust.

Strategic Planning - Assist in developing and implementing department policies, goals, and objectives. Analyze crime trends and develop proactive strategies to enhance public safety.

Compliance - Serves as the Police Department's Jeanne Clery Liaison Officer. Collects crime and disciplinary referral data from various internal and external sources, such as the Office of Student Conduct, local law enforcement agencies, and the state police. In conjunction with the applicable offices, develops and implements Clery Act-required policies, programs, and activities. Works with the institutional police department/public safety Records Division to ensure proper classification of crime incident reports (OR) Reviews incident reports and assigns the proper Clery crime category daily. Coordinates with the sergeants and investigator (or appropriate sworn/non-sworn personnel) to ensure that the disposition of all crime reports are updated within 60 days to ensure Clery compliance. Manages the institution’s Timely Warning program.

Licensed Peace Officer in the State of Texas by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement at the time of hire. Meet all state and local certification requirements for law enforcement officers.

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Successful completion of a background check, including criminal history, psychological evaluation, medical exam, and drug testing.

Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies| procedures and processes.

Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws.

Experience with specialized Units: Introduction of specialized units (e.g., Special Response Team (SRT), Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) requires dedicated leadership to oversee their operations.

Several years of law enforcement experience, with progressive responsibility and prior supervisory roles.
