Summary: Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches are dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue.
Primary Responsibilities:
Install or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods or transit levels
Configure pipe routes
Cut pipes to required lengths
Layout pipe routes, following written or verbal instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors
Dig trenches with trenching tools
Slide pipe into trenches tools
Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains and water mains
Grade trenches or culverts
Seal joints
Use glue or welding equipment to ensure pipes are tightly fitted
Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels
Cover pipes with dirt or other material
Drill holes into pipes for auxiliary lines
Perform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those needing repair
Utilize magnetic or radio indicators
Safety
Promote, execute and adhere to the companys safety program
Attend daily and weekly safety meetings
Work with Safety Officer to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Companys Safety Program.
Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the well being of others.
Work Experience
Minimum 2 to 4 years experience within the road construction industry
2 to 3 years experience as a pipelayer is required.
