job title: Shop Manager
Southwest Freightlines is looking for an experienced shop manager to oversee and manage the daily operations of the shop personal and Equipment. Must have experience in the trucking industry.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The Shop manager will be responsible for the following:
- Assist the terminal manager in hiring, training, and supervising maintenance personnel.
- Ensure proper payment of personnel and closely monitor overtime hours.
- Manage compliance with standard repair time.
- Ensure shop personnel are adequately trained and equipped for their tasks.
- Create, distribute, approve, and maintain accuracy of work orders.
- Create, approve, and maintain accuracy of purchase orders.
Equipment and Facility:
- Coordinate the maintenance of all company and customer equipment.
- Manage maintenance programs to meet specialized equipment and hauling requirements.
- Maintain the equipment and facility in safe and proper working order.
- Stay updated on current equipment specifications and maintenance practices.
- Manage upcoming equipment needs and ensure access to available equipment.
Financial:
- Manage and control shop inventory, including consigned parts.
- Conduct inventory audits as required.
- Monitor daily usage, purchase of parts and supplies.
- Track maintenance costs and charges regularly compared to the budget.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of 3rd party maintenance completion and billing.
- Collect payment from 3rd party work and ensure accuracy.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process.
Customer Service:
- Ensure the company meets all customer requirements and communicates any changes promptly.
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal terminal users.
Safety and Regulatory:
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner.
- Maintain records of maintenance and testing to meet regulatory requirements.
- Encourage and participate in all safety-related programs.
Requirements:
- Minimum of three to five years of related experience and/or training.
- Good knowledge of maintenance within the transportation industry.
- Communication and managerial skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in a computerized environment.
- Customer development skills.
