Memorial Private School, established in 2004 and accredited by the highest level organization through Cognia/SACS, is a private, college-prep faith-based high school in west Houston. Memorial Private is for grades 6th - 12th. This is a warm and friendly place to work, with a structured, rigorous college-prep curriculum, yet with an intentionally low stress environment. MPS only accepts up to 60 - 70 students each year to retain its accepting and close family atmosphere.
The Science program is always growing and research and labs are an innovative and important facet of the program. Focus is on quality academic and moral education. The school is consistently busy with events, dances, get-togethers, student council, NHS, debate, chess and other clubs and activities, which the teachers sponsor and help with etc.
We are adding another position for a strong SCIENCE TEACHER. The right candidate will have excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task and self-initiative. Requirements include prior knowledge and experience with the standard state HIGH SCHOOL level and above science curriculum, and typical TEA required reading materials and expectations. You must be comfortable with both high school Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as well. Above that, we look for innovation, enthusiasm and most importantly, someone who will be an outstanding role model for our students. We count on you to make Science interesting, applicable and fun.
Because we limit our school enrollment to meet a small teacher-student ratio, you will have on-going one-to-one and small group interaction with each student, and often with their parents. A typical day is diverse and the position requires the candidate to be comfortable handling a variety of responsibilities. This small school environment is truly unique, challenging and very rewarding. We work very closely with every student.
Our stand-alone school building is located in a beautiful area right next to a park in WEST Memorial, and surrounded by other schools. When not directly teaching, we routinely visit with the students, play chess, catch, four-square, cards or board games and ping-pong and constantly look for avenues that bring out their strengths and help them mature.
The majority of MPHS students are typically between average to above average in intelligence. Students are well prepared and go on to Baylor, UT, A&M, TCU, Harding, Harvard and many others in and out of state, including European universities. Memorial Private also accepts a limited number of students with learning differences, who may have slow processing or who may have gotten behind in school due to medical issues, and generally different learning styles - dyslexia, ADD/ADHD. The small nature of the school, along with the school dog or two in the school every year for the last 20 years, all helps the school retain its accepting and comfortable vibe.
MPHS is not equipped to accept students with behavior, or substance use or abuse problems.
The right candidate will be dependable and able to commit for this coming Spring 2024 school year (in-person), and beyond. MPS is opening another small school and training will be underway. This job, in particular, requires at least a Bachelor's degree in a science subject area, including courses in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for the high school level, preferably with a Masters Degree in the Science field.
Specific goals and objectives will be agreed upon with the potential matching candidate. Over time, the owners will roll out more small schools options across America.
