The Late Effects Research Group in the Department of Radiation Physics at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to participate in a pilot study to study to assess the feasibility of collecting multi-institutional, multi-modality contemporary radiotherapy data and generation of organ- dosimetry for childhood cancer survivors treated between 2000 and 2022, for a possible future expansion of the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS).LEARNING OBJECTIVESThe fellow will work with a team of scientists to develop organ dosimetry methodology, standardized workflows, and scalable infrastructure, i.e., development and testing of a standardized data collection and process to carry-out late effects studies that include survivors treated with contemporary radiotherapy for use in a future CCSS expansion. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSThe ideal candidate must have finished a PhD in medical physics or a closely related field. Experience in medical physics research will ideally include DICOM data analysis, image processing, auto segmentation, workflow development, and data curation. The ideal candidate will also have experience with databases and scientific computer programming (Python is the preferred language in our lab). Treatment planning and dosimetric analysis are essential skills for this position. Finally, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills who can work both independently and collaboratively with our team of scientists, staff, and trainees.ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATIONThe Postdoctoral Fellow will report to Professor Rebecca Howell, PhD (Director, Late Effects Research Group)POSITION INFORMATIONMD Anderson follows the NIH stipend levels as outlined by the Kirchstein - NRSA (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-23-076.html) . This full-time trainee position will provide a salary between $56,484 to $68,604, dependent upon the years of postgraduate experience.MD Anderson offers compensated trainees:

  • Trainees in the Kwong lab will focus on cholangiocarcinoma, melanoma, and/or bladder cancer. Our work encompasses patient sample analysis, mouse work, cell culture, and basic biochemistry. Our main goals are to understand drug resistance and drug synergy, to identify novel upfront and second line therapies, primarily focusing on targeted and immune therapies. The fellow will work on projects that will validate a novel drug combination in bladder cancer, as well as creating a novel mouse model of cholangiocarcinoma. The research program focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying the growth and metastasis of aggressive breast tumors such as inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), and the translation of such findings into novel therapeutic strategies to improve the survival of patients. Current efforts in the lab include dissecting the role of E-cadherin and cleaved E-cadherin fragments in IBC and brain metastasis, studying NDRG1\'s role in IBC aggressiveness and brain metastasis, developing new therapeutic strategies for IBC metastases, and identifying biomarkers of aggressiveness in IBC patients.
