I am seeking a FEMALE home health aide/caregiver for my mother. I want to hire one person who can commit to 25-30 hours of work divided over 4 days/shifts, which would preferably be Wednesday - Saturday. Ideally, the shifts would start at 7 am and last between 6-8 hours.
This would need to be a good fit for both the caregiver and my mother, so we would likely start the candidate on a trial basis, working a few shifts at $20/hr. Once things are determined to be a good fit, we would then move to a full-time arrangement and pay $22+/hr.
My mother is 73 years old and approximately 95lbs. She is diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (“PSP”) and has dementia, so she struggles to walk, eat, talk, and control her bladder/bowels. She is a high-fall risk and needs to use a walker or wheelchair to get around. Her thinking, memory, and ability to emotionally regulate herself are impaired.
My father lives in the home with my mother and is the primary caregiver for her. The person we are looking to hire is needed to essentially give him a chance to rest; however, my father would be available for training and support as needed. He would also manage most of the meal preparation and all the groceries/errands.
Rate:
- $20 - $25/hr
Requirements:
- Experience with adult/senior care
- Patience and professionalism
- Ability to reliably commute to the location
- Willingness to provide a reference
Preferences:
- Experience with dementia patients
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, as my mother speaks both languages fluently
- Ability to occasionally drive my mother to medical appointments; if driving your own vehicle, costs would be reimbursed
Responsibilities:
- Some housekeeping (including laundry), some meal preparation, showers, toileting, dressing, grooming, oral care, changing disposable briefs, escorting, transferring, medication reminders, or any other Activities of Daily Living according to my mother’s needs.
