Position: Set Designer
Location: Houston, TX
We are an experiential event company expanding into the Houston market this holiday season. Our mission is to create immersive environments that capture the magic and joy of the Christmas season. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Set Designer who thrives in a creative and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for the holidays, an eye for design, and the ability to bring festive concepts to life through visually stunning and functional sets.
Key Responsibilities:
Conceptual Design: Develop original and innovative holiday-themed set designs that align with the overall event vision, ensuring a magical and immersive experience for guests.
Set Construction: Oversee the fabrication and assembly of sets, including props and scenery, ensuring all elements are built to safety standards and adhere to design specifications.
Material Sourcing: Select and source appropriate materials, including holiday-themed decorations, props, and structures, while staying within the event’s budget.
Collaboration: Work closely with the creative director, production team, decorators, and lighting designers to ensure seamless integration of all visual elements.
Project Management: Manage timelines for the set design and build process, ensuring milestones are met, adjustments are made as needed, and deadlines are respected.
Installation and Teardown: Supervise the installation of the set at the event location, ensuring all components are securely and safely assembled. Manage the teardown and storage or disposal of set materials post-event.
Quality Control: Maintain high standards for visual presentation, ensuring sets look polished and professional throughout the duration of the event.
Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 1 year in set design or production design, preferably with experience in large-scale events, theater, film, or themed environments.
Technical Skills: Proficient in using design software such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools for visualizing and planning set layouts.
Hands-On Skills: Familiarity with set construction techniques, carpentry, and prop fabrication.
Creative Vision: Strong ability to conceptualize and design engaging holiday-themed environments, with a deep understanding of color, space, and composition.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and adjust designs or installations quickly when challenges arise during the build.
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects at once, meet tight deadlines, and work long hours during the event preparation phase.
Team Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse creative and production team.
Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing needs and last-minute adjustments, as event requirements may evolve.
