Responsibilities and Specific Duties:
Responsible for the supervision of mechanics, utility workers and cleaners and for the daily repair, cleaning, and reconditioning of buses.
Supervises and instructs mechanics, utility workers and cleaners in the repair, servicing, and reconditioning of buses in assigned area.
Provides technical assistance to personnel as necessary to assure quality and timely repairs.
Coordinates upgrades, training and training schedule with General Foreman and Superintendent.
Coordinates workflow from work area to work area.
Responsible for all personnel and general administrative matters i.e., first step grievances, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, payroll issues, etc.
Maintains records of work performed and daily overtime, and absenteeism.
Supervises maintenance and repair equipment, inspects tools and equipment for condition and proper use.
Responsible for meeting equipment service demands in a timely manner.
Ensures and maintains quality and safety standards.
Research pertinent bus performance information and analyze data to determine bus down issues.
Coordinates activities with Storeroom.
Maintains yard control.
Dispatches wreckers/T-Trucks/tire trucks for breakdown recovery and on street repairs.
Keeps Superintendent and General Foreman informed on all matters of importance.
Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional vocational/training in heavy duty vehicle maintenance and supplementary training in body repair, transmissions, welding, electrical and/or air conditioning preferred.
Minimum of 5 years extensive diesel-powered bus maintenance experience including direct mechanical/journey experience.
2 years previous lead/supervisory experience, or successful completion of the Career Advancement Program (CAP) is required.
Supervisory experience in a mechanical maintenance/shop environment is preferred.
Good communications (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Good decision making and organizational skills.
General knowledge and use of part books and maintenance manuals.
Familiar with labor relations/union agreements and related procedures.
Basic knowledge of personal computers and related software.
A valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with a P (passenger endorsement) is required for the job and must meet requirements regarding motor vehicle records.
The ability to drive any Authority owned vehicle.
Able to maintain or obtain additional certifications/licenses as required.
