POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Painter/Blaster is responsible for operating industrial spray painting and media blasting equipment to apply protective coatings and paints as needed to production equipment, systems, and fabricated materials and products.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Surface preparation & protective coating applications on above ground piping; steel structures; and other related appurtenances.
Operate & maintain various blasting, spraying, & other equipment.
Prepare, match colors, and mix standard and other primers, paints and coatings to proper consistency and viscosity, using thinners, solvents, additives, and agitators as required.
Select pressures, nozzles, and temperature, humidity, and cure times.
Prepare and clean items and surfaces to be finished.
Mask, plug, or block finished, machined, or specified surfaces not to be coated.
Uniformly apply wet primers, paints and coatings to parts and components and other items using care to avoid over spraying/coating and to obtain a smooth, covered and even surface free form runs and thin spots. Repeat operations as necessary to obtain desired effect or thickness of media.
Visually and mechanically check finished items for pin holes, runs, bare spots, proper coverage. Refinish and touch up as required.
Ensure the proper movement of finished goods to inspection or shipping area; cleaning and maintenance of spray application equipment, booths, filters, protective clothing, and equipment according to established practices. Ensure needed painting and coating supplies are on hand.
Periodically check with bead blast area for parts availability.
Any other responsibilities as assigned.
JOB SKILLS:
Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques.
Ability to utilize scaffolding, rigging, access, containment systems, & safety equipment
Demonstrated strong technical background with an ability to interpret charts, graphs, and technical paint specification data for material application
Demonstrated strong mechanical background with an ability to identify root cause analysis of equipment and troubleshoot problems for the maintenance and repair of paint equipment
Perform all duties in accordance with company's quality control, quality assurance, & health & safety policies & procedures, as well as industry standards & project specifications
Understand quality control and reporting standards as it relates to industrial coatings
Experience with industrial coatings application process, 2-part mixing process, HVLP equipment, consistent millage
Material handling (measurement or mixing)
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Accurate paperwork completion & other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & TRAINING
High school diploma plus 2 – 5 years of industrial painting experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
2 – 5 years of experience on industrial painting experience
Ability to read and interpret documents written in English
Surface preparation (abrasive blasting, hand/power tool)
Application of paints & specialty coatings (pump, airless, & conventional spray, brush/roller)
Application of specialty coatings (epoxies, urethanes, & zincs)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Some heavy lifting and considerable moving of equipment required.
Lifting of objects up to 70lbs.
Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments.
Safety glasses required while performing tasks.
Ability to stand up to 11 hours a day (with a lunch break), up to 6 days a week.
Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
Night shift 6pm-4:30am 10% shift Differential Pay
Steel-toe boots required in Manufacturing Facility.
