Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Over-the-Road (OTR) Cargo Van Driver to transport goods efficiently and safely across long distances. The ideal candidate will ensure timely deliveries, maintain a clean driving record, and demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills. You will represent our company professionally while adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Transport and Delivery: Safely operate a cargo van to transport goods across assigned routes, covering regional or nationwide distances.
Route Management: Plan and follow efficient routes using GPS or other navigation tools to ensure timely delivery of shipments.
Cargo Handling: Load, secure, and unload freight, ensuring all goods are properly accounted for and free of damage.
Compliance: Adhere to federal, state, and local traffic laws and company safety regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.
Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections of the cargo van, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and fluids. Report any maintenance or mechanical issues promptly.
Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, delivery records, and other required paperwork. Use electronic logging devices (ELDs) if applicable.
Customer Service: Interact professionally with clients at delivery and pickup locations, providing updates on shipment status when necessary.
Requirements
Valid Driver’s License: Must hold a current and valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Experience: Previous experience driving cargo vans or similar vehicles, particularly in an OTR capacity, preferred.
Physical Fitness: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, load/unload cargo, and remain on the road for extended periods.
Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT regulations and freight handling practices.
Flexibility: Willingness to drive long hours, including overnight, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Technology Proficiency: Ability to use GPS devices, ELDs, and mobile communication tools.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with dispatchers, clients, and team members effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience driving in multiple states or cross-border routes (if applicable).
Familiarity with common freight types and securement methods.
Basic mechanical knowledge to handle minor vehicle issues on the road.
