Responsible for assisting Recreational Sports Fitness Staff with providing a safe, healthy, and positive environment for fitness class participants.

Responsible for implementing procedures for fitness programming, which includes but not limited to, emergency protocols.

Prepare and implement proper choreography to include modification for all fitness levels for assigned fitness classes to ensure a safe and positive experience for fitness class participants.

Assist the Associate Director of Fitness and Wellness with marketing of the Fitness Department activities while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Mentor and guide new instructors to ensure existing fitness guidelines and procedures are being communicated.

Responsible for maintaining current certification(s)/licensure(s) required as a condition of employment and providing valid and legitimate proof of certification(s)/licensure(s) to the supervisor prior to the expiration date(s) of certification(s)/licensure(s).

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience as a fitness instructor at a recreational facility and/or TAMIU FIT training preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge and skill to align the use of various fitness equipment.

Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and principles.

Maintain a professional environment including communication with Recreational Sports Staff and participants.

Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of safe and effective class structure including AFAA, ACE or NASM recommended methodology.

Knowledge and implementation of University policies as well as KWRC Fitness guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for fitness class participation.

Ability to ensure participants are executing proper techniques.

Ability to conduct classes independently.

Ability to recruit and retain fitness class participants.

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population and provide modifications for various fitness levels.

Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and principles.

Ability to maintain a positive work ethic including punctuality, professional dress, behavior and attitude.

Ability to assist and mentor fitness staff. Ability to maintain current certification.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

Must obtain CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment.

Must obtain a nationally-accredited group fitness instructor certification within a year of employment.

Other Requirements:

Position may require moving and lifting objects and materials as necessary.

Position may also require various exercise movements including jumping, squatting, lifting weight equipment, etc.

Position is Temporary, subject to funding and/or need.
