The Staff Accountant reports to the Assistant Controller and is located in Round Rock, Texas. This position is responsible for the daily, weekly and period end close tasks and activities of the general ledger and financial reporting functions. In addition, will also be responsible for the timely and accurate financial accounting and reporting at the district and corporate level as well as assisting with financial analysis, reporting to senior management and quarterly and year end audits.Responsibilities
Manage and validate data inputs from distributed operations into accounting solutions
Monitor and analyze daily and weekly accounting processes and workflows – both automated and manual
Maintain the district and corporate level general ledger accounts and trial balances
Prepare multiple GAAP-based financial statements and supplemental reports
Complete the accurate and timely reconciliations of certain key accounts
Prepare journal entries and other aspects of the monthly, quarterly and yearly close process
Comply with specific SOX financial accounting controls and ensure compliance during all weekly, period end and annual tasks
Complete expense and budget variance review and reporting
Assist with external and internal audits
Prepare various financial and operational reports both scheduled and ad hoc
Assist with budget and forecasting functions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
Three years or more of progressive general accounting experience required
Good understanding of application and practice of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and SOX
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Team player and has ability to work independently
Detail oriented and excellent organization and analytical skills
Ability to be proactive and identify accounting issues and identify areas for improvement (i.e. missing information, inconsistencies with contracts etc.)
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with automated accounting systems and their application to accounting functions
Experience with Great Plains a significant plus
Successful completion of a drug test and pre-employment background screening is required.
