Utility Line Locator and Runner

The Underground Runner and Utility Locator is responsible for ensuring contractors can safely dig without damaging our underground utility infrastructure. You may also perform a wide range of physical labor tasks in support of workers on the construction site including but not limited to; pipelayer, lead pipelayer, operator, superintendent, and general superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Ability to read and interpret utility maps to identify size and type of underground utilities.

Accurately mark the location of underground utilities

Work after hours on call when scheduled.

Perform work in all weather conditions.

Receive and respond to locate tickets during normal and after hours in accordance with time requirements via computer and cell phone.

Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark underground utilities within set accuracy limits.

Use a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary.

Haul trailers and smaller equipment.

Take pictures and document all the information required for each locate ticket.

Operate video camera for Preconstruction videos prior to installation.

Safely operate company vehicle

Prioritizing locating requests to determine routing.

Mark the location of underground utilities on appropriate locations using required spray paints, flags, and equipment.

Complete and document locates on company provided iPad.

Maintain a professional appearance and abide by company dress code.

Maintain a positive working relationship with all parties involved, including but not limited to customers and contractors.

Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment used.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Safety:

Promote, execute, and adhere to SSP safety program.

Wear the required PPE.

OSHA 10-hour safety training (preferred) but can be obtained upon hire.

Attending regular safety training.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Able to work well with others.

Punctual Attendance and Dependability

Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.

Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.

Read and understand maps and other documents to help identify underground utilities.

Operator handheld detection equipment. Have experience or is willing to learn how to use GIS equipment.

Operate video camera for Preconstruction videos.

Operate small equipment and trailers.

Must be able to pass background check to work on the military installations.

Education/Experience/License or Certification:

High School or equivalent

Prior construction experience preferred.

Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:

Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.

Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs.
