Hiring Archeological Monitors for Kerr County, TX

We are hiring Archeological Monitors to assist in the devastating Texas floods. If you meet the minimum requirements for the position listed below and are interested in joining us to help please go to www.debrisjobs.com, upload your resume and fill out the brief registration form and someone will be in touch with you soon.

Must have at least these requirements to apply:

1. A bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field with significant coursework in archaeology.

Formal training in archaeological field methods, research, and site interpretation is typically required, often obtained through academic programs or field schools.

2. Experience:

At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archaeology, as per the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards. This ensures familiarity with fieldwork techniques relevant to monitoring, such as site identification and recording.

Practical experience in archaeological site monitoring, survey, or excavation is often preferred, particularly for projects under the Texas Historical Commission (THC) or federal regulations like Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).

3. Skills and Knowledge:

Ability to identify and record archaeological sites and artifacts, as monitoring involves observing construction activities for potential cultural resources.

Familiarity with Texas-specific archaeological contexts, including prehistoric and historic periods, and material culture.

Knowledge of state and federal antiquities laws, such as the Antiquities Code of Texas and NHPA, to ensure compliance during monitoring activities.

Proficiency in field recording techniques and, in some cases, basic use of computerized databases or GPS for site documentation.

4. Certifications and Permits:

For projects on state-owned or controlled lands, or those requiring a Texas Antiquities Permit (e.g., monitoring on State Antiquities Landmarks or state waterways), the monitor must work under the supervision of a professional archaeologist who holds or is associated with a permit. The monitor themselves may not need to hold the permit but must meet the professional qualifications to conduct permitted work.
