Responsibilities
The quality control inspector is accountable to the president and responsible for the final quality of the product.
Assures that the product will meet the requirements of the contract and be in compliance with the standards of the AWS and the AISC.
The quality control manager must work with the president, and the shop supervisor to develop reporting policies and procedures that address remedies for nonconformance situations and their prevention.
Work Performed
Checks the availability and suitability of the tools and processes available to perform miscellaneous and structural steel fabrication.
Checks to ensure that the materials and finished product meet the customer and/ or contract specifications.
Inspects workmanship to ensure that AWS and AISC quality standards are met.
Works with welders to solve fabrication challenges.
Qualifications
Minimum of five years experience or equivalent training in the field of welding and structural fabrication.
A thorough knowledge of contract documents and blueprints dealing with structural and miscellaneous elements.
Excellent mathematical skills.
Leadership skills to motivate co-workers to quality workmanship.
Qualified per current ANSI/AISC 360 - Specifications for Steel Building Section N4 (l) (b).
Qualified to perform bolting inspections in accordance with the AISC specification for Structural Joints Using High-Strength Bolts and in accordance with the provisions of AWS D1.1/D1.1M clause 6.1.4(3).
