Job Title: Distribution Designer/PlannerSouthern California contractor certified CPUC Supplier Clearinghouse minority-owned business (MBE) specializing in fire risk mitigation, service planning, deteriorated poles, electric vehicle charging station design, plot layout and design is seeking experienced Distribution Designers/Planners to join and support their San Diego Team. The Designers/Planners will impact complex overhead and underground electric design projects for SDG&E Job Responsibilities:
Review scope and prepare plans for complex overhead and underground electric designs.
Create material reports and coordinate multiple facets of the project, including environmental, permitting, land acquisition, and fusing requests.
Prioritize and manage several complex projects simultaneously.
Represent the company in the field as needed, making design decisions for structure placement and trench locations while interacting with customers.
Utilize exceptional computer and communication skills to achieve successful outcomes in a team environment.
Oversee all aspects of assigned distribution jobs, including environmental submittals, land rights, permitting, FAA submittals, and fusing submittals.
Complete fielding and job walks safely according to WCEP standards and utility fielding guidelines.
Pass the appropriate SDG&E tests related to your program to become a Qualified Designer (overhead, underground, and gas). Applicants who are already fully qualified are preferred.
Understand and apply engineering deliverables into designs as applicable.
Flag any issues or questions during the design process and create possible solutions.
Communicate with team leads regarding scope changes on all assigned jobs for possible cost changes.
Communicate with appropriate external clients as needed/requested (engineers, fusing team, environmental department, etc.).
Update trackers or work with project coordinators to update trackers for assigned jobs as tasks and stages are completed. Keep job notes up to date.
Plan daily with team leads regarding job and task priorities.
Discuss scheduling issues, delays, and early completion with team leads early and often.
Work with QC and program coordinators (if applicable) to ensure deliverables are submitted properly and on time.
Provide prompt and accurate email, Teams, and phone responses with internal and external teams.
Track time daily and fill out timesheets accurately. Communicate time off appropriately with team leads.
Learn and use Bluebeam Revu, GIS/SPARC, iCUE, PIDS, and other SDG&E standards and tools.
Drive a personal vehicle and possess a valid Driver’s License, current registration, and insurance.
Lift up to 50 lbs, be in the field for 8-12 hours at a time, and stand or sit for long periods.
Participate in team-building events, company Teams threads, and engage with your team.
Qualifications & Prerequisites:
High School Diploma required. A college degree is a plus but not required.
5+ years of utility experience planning and designing electric and/or gas facilities and infrastructure.
Extensive knowledge of overhead and underground fielding safety and techniques.
Experience with complex overhead and underground electric distribution design jobs such as 4-12kV cutovers, mobile home park conversions, electric vehicle charger installations, and/or overhead to underground conversions.
Experience reviewing engineering deliverables.
Capable of managing multiple jobs, delivering jobs according to due dates, and communicating both internally and externally regarding job details.
Eagerness to learn and contribute to the team’s success while working collaboratively with all stakeholders.
Experience with material entry programs is a plus.
Ability to solve problems and overcome challenges with a positive mindset.
Proven ability to communicate through all channels regarding workload, questions, and personal time.
Additional Information:
Compensation: $40.00-$60.00/hr (Negotiable based upon experience) + $200/week vehicle allowance will be provided
Work Site: Remote work environment available. Ideal candidate lives in or is interested in relocating near San Diego (Temecula, South Orange County, Riverside County etc.) to participate in fielding aspects of the job.
