The Manager of New Business Support and DMS is responsible for managing a team of LG2 and LG5 Department Clerks and CSRs for both Underwriting and Policy Issue who handle phone and email inquiries and provide back-office support to the Underwriting and Policy Issue departments. The Manager is part of the Underwriting Management Team.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Oversee Policy Issues and Underwriting phone calls and emails from agents and applicants regarding pending cases.

  • Oversee Policy Issue tasks including delivery of ISS status policies with receipt of COD or signed modification and NTO report for cases where modification/COD is not received.

  • Oversee Underwriting workflow tasks including resolving UW requirements received on PRD to push to workflow, ordering of MVRs and exams, and receipt of manual calls, orals, labs, APSs, and inspections.

  • Oversee processing of incoming mail for Underwriting.

  • Oversee mailing of all UW and PI letters and refund checks.

  • Handle letters for sensitive cases including applicant and state notification.

  • Manage staffing for the department by hiring and training new candidates when a position is open.

  • Monitor and approve time for employees including vacation and sick time and reconcile time on Kronos.

  • Handle new employee audits and reviews.

  • Handle disciplinary action where required.

  • Check all underwriting vendor invoices, add ledger entries, and submit to dept. director for approval and payment.

  • Track all vendor invoice payments and counts and complete quarterly UW expense comparison.

  • Oversee DMS including scanning and indexing of all documents for all AIL departments. Troubleshoot missing documents and handle DMS technical issues.

  • Work with the UW management team to further the overall goals of the UW department.




Required Skills:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Critical thinking skills required on a daily basis

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent PC skills, Excel, Word, and Outlook; MS Access a plus

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, production environment

  • A combination of experience and education will be considered on an individual basis




Required Experience:

  • Some college coursework or bachelor's degree preferred, however, will consider 2-5 years life insurance industry experience in lieu of degree

  • LOMA 280/281 LOMA 290/291 and pursuit of FLMI preferred, Other industry courses will be considered

  • LOMA Underwriting (UND) is a plus

  • A combination of experience and education will be considered
