We are seeking a skilled and experienced horticulturist/landscaper to lead the development of a high-end private garden with strong Japanese design influences. This is a full-time position based in a private residential setting, with competitive pay.
Position Overview:
You will be responsible for the design, installation, and ongoing cultivation of a refined landscape that blends traditional Japanese garden elements with regionally appropriate plantings. This is a hands-on role that also offers creative input and the opportunity to build something truly exceptional from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the property owner and/or design consultants to refine the vision and layout
Source and select appropriate plants, trees, and materials, including stones, moss, water features, and pathways
Prepare soil, install plantings, and build structural garden features (e.g., dry stream beds, pathways, bamboo elements)
Prune and train plants using techniques appropriate to Japanese gardens (e.g., niwaki, cloud pruning)
Maintain the garden to the highest standards of health and aesthetics
Ideal Candidate:
5+ years professional experience in horticulture, landscape installation, or garden design
Strong understanding of Japanese garden principles and plant aesthetics
Hands-on ability to work with stone, wood, and natural materials
Able to work independently with attention to detail and respect for craftsmanship
Experience operating landscaping tools and small machinery
