The Director identifies and fully understands key customer requirements and implements best practice tools, processes, and procedures to achieve exceptional customer service aligned with research goals. This position is responsible for developing and implementing policies, procedures, and auditing functions of all services.ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions

Serve in a leadership dyad with the Vice Chair for Research

Support and collaborate with DFPM research leadership on the implementation of the research strategic plan

Refine and measure milestones for DFPM research operations and productivity

Continue to refine internal systems processes and controls for federal grant proposal submissions consistent with University of Utah and federal sponsor policies and guidelines

Supervise Central Administration Research Office ( CARO ) staff members

Develop and manage operational budget for CARO in partnership with the finance team

Oversee pre-award operations and provide backup support for pre-award duties

Oversee IRB and compliance operations and provide backup support for IRB and compliance-related duties

Participate on department committees and staff leadership meetings

Build collaborative relationships with research leaders in the department and across the health sciences, such as Health Sciences Research Forum, the SVP Research Unit, and the Office of the VPR , including OSP

Oversee the reporting of research metrics (eg, research expenditures, proposal and award data) to research leadership at DFPM , the School of Medicine, and other stakeholders

Connect researchers to university resources and prospective collaborators to advance team science

Serve as the department’s ClinicalTrials.gov administrator

Serve as ambassador of DFPM research across University of Utah health sciences and professional organizations
