David Symons in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology ( NUIP ) at the University of Utah (UU) in Salt Lake City, UT to study endothelial cell metabolism in the context of acute ischemic stroke using preclinical models. In addition to Dr. Symons, the mentoring team includes MPIs Drs. Scott Summers, William Holland, Paulo Pires, and Robert Campbell. We seek individuals with basic science skills directly related to the intersection of metabolism and cardiovascular biology. Successful candidates will exhibit high motivation, stellar academic performance, outstanding research productivity during their graduate training, and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial and respectful manner. Applicants across the cardiovascular translational research spectrum will be considered including researchers using molecular, biochemical, genetic, and physiological approaches.Stipends begin at 61,000 and follow NIH NRSA guidelinesResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate will be well versed in techniques of molecular and cell biology, rodent handling, and in vivo and/or ex vivo assessment of arterial function. The candidate will work on two NIH funded projects: the role of endothelial cell sphingolipids (Project 1) and endothelial cell autophagy (Project 2) in contributing to outcomes of acute ischemic stroke.
