STEMCAP Program Overview Since 2016, the STEM Community Alliance Program (STEMCAP) has provided more than 700 educational workshops and hands-on conservation projects at Youth-In-Custody facilities across northern Utah. STEMCAP offers a variety of programming types including guest lectures led by scientists and artists, multi-day science workshop series, art enrichment classes, a computer programming series, horticulture projects, and summer camps. We provide workshops in five youth centers.STEMCAP partners with experts in Science, the Arts, and the Humanities to increase awareness of and interest in various career and academic pathways for incarcerated youth. STEMCAP enhances educational self-discovery and provides creative outlets for youth participants. The STEMCAP Associate Director manages the day-to-day operations of the program, including building and maintaining partnerships across and beyond University of Utahs campus, developing and evaluating educational programming, managing annual budgets, as well as grant writing and reporting. The Associate Director supervises a team consisting of two program coordinators, a graduate assistant, and undergraduate student interns. In addition to administrative duties, the Associate Director provides onsite programming support at youth centers and occasionally leads workshops.This position is currently supported by a multi-year grant provided by the Utah State Board of Education. This position is likely to be extended pending contract renewal. Formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted persons are strongly encouraged to apply.The Associate Director will report to Dr. Andy Eisen, Director of Prison Education.
