As a Cargo Tank Inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of truck mounted cargo tanks and trailers used in transporting various petroleum (primarily DOT 406 and MC 306), fertilizer, hazardous liquid, cement, or food products. Your expertise will help maintain our high standards in the industry while providing exceptional service to our customers. You’ll be at the forefront of quality assurance, conducting thorough inspections and assessments to guarantee that all cargo tanks meet DOT and FMCSA regulatory requirements and operational safety standards.
Keep work areas clean and organized, return tools to proper storage, and follow safety protocols.
Evaluate tank integrity and conduct thorough VIKP inspections of cargo tanks to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards and make the necessary repairs.
Perform comprehensive trailer repairs including suspension, axle replacement, electrical wiring diagnostics and rewiring, frame straightening, and structural reinforcement.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues across various trailer types and implement effective solutions to restore full functionality.
Utilize welding and mechanical skills to repair damaged components and ensure DOT compliance.
Provide detail report of findings to Director of Operations and/or shop foreman and provide clear communication regarding inspection results and necessary repairs.
Utilize acetylene and electrical welding equipment to cut, weld, and repair components from ferrous and non-ferrous metals in compliance with cargo tank regulations.
Apply advanced welding and mechanical skills to install and integrate truck bodies, hook lifts, pump systems, power take-offs (PTOs), and other specialized accessories.
Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure precise installation and repairs.
Conduct post-installation inspections and pressure tests to verify integrity and compliance.
Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices related to cargo tank safety.
Detailed and accurate completion of all paperwork including time keeping, repair order documentation, parts requisitions, and testing reports.
Required qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Certified Welder.
Minimum 3 years of cargo tank repair experience is required as a registered inspector.
Knowledge of cargo tank regulations and safety standards is a must.
Must have your own toolbox and tools up to 1".
Valid driver's license required, CDL is a plus.
Strong communication, computer, and numeracy skills required.
