Overview:

The Roots Kitchen is a production kitchen located in The Roots Farm Market in Middlesex. We are seeking a prep cook with some experience to join the team full time, Wednesday through Sunday. Ideal candidates should have some kitchen experience, but most importantly demonstrate a desire and willingness to improve their prep and cooking skills. The new team member will be involved with food preparation, cooking, packaging and labeling, kitchen organization, and cleaning. Reliability and positivity are a must; a passion for local organic food a plus!

Responsibilities:

Assist in food prep and cooking under supervision of the kitchen team

Follow recipes, prep lists, and portion control guidelines to ensure consistency in quality

Keep kitchen cooler on store floor continuously stocked and accessible to customers

Package, label, and date all prepared items

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen area

Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen

Assist with inventory management and stock rotation

Wash dishes as needed throughout shift

Communicate with and receive feedback from kitchen team, Kitchen Coordinator, store team, and Store Owner when needed

Help maintain a positive workplace culture by being responsive to staff suggestions and concerns, and work as a team to resolve problems

Maintain effective working relationships with all Roots Market employees

Qualifications:

Has at least some experience working in a professional kitchen (production kitchen preferred)

Familiarity with processing farm produce and whole food ingredients

Lifting 20+ lbs regularly, work in a standing position for duration of shift, comfortable working with knives and hot cooking temperatures

Must be reliable, professional, great at communicating, organized, and efficient

Demonstrated passion for teamwork, local food, and the community

Have references that confirm applicant's reliability and skill set

Able to work during our kitchen hours (7a.m. - 3p.m.)

Must be able to work full time, Wednesday through Sunday

Compensation:

$18-$20/hour depending on experience and the fit

15% discount on store items

2nd quality vegetables

Shift lunch & drink

PTO if eligible
