ShackletonThomas is a long established (1987) and renowned furniture and pottery making company in Bridgewater, VT, which has a rich history of craft and creativity. We specialize in handwork and celebrate true craftsmanship. While furniture designs are by Charles, each finished piece is signed by the maker that built it. We are located in a beautiful post and beam workshop housed in an old mill filled with natural light.
We are looking for a highly motivated person to join our furniture making team as a Shop Assistant. This entry-level position is an excellent way to enter the furniture making world. As Shop Assistant, you will be exposed to all aspects of furniture making and be an integral part of the team. We will train the right person` in the needs of this role, and also set you on a path to build furniture here at the shop as part of your training.
The main objective of this position is to help maximize the functionality of the shop and ensure smooth operations. Under the supervision of the Shop Manager, the Shop Assistant will:
-Maintain shop cleanliness - may involve sweeping, organizing tools etc.
-Assist with transport of lumber; both between departments and from lumber mills
-Assist with regular inventory of furniture making supplies; ensures accurate counts on hand and that furniture makers
have supplies needed per job
-Assist with tool maintenance such as oiling machinery or sharpening tools
-Assist with light shop maintenance as needed and appropriate
-Assist with the milling and prep of lumber or other supplies for master furniture makers
-Assist with any necessary research and development on new equipment needs, sourcing vendors etc.
-Other duties may be assigned based on the needs of the shop and the Shop Manager.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to work onsite daily in Bridgewater, VT
Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Team player and sense of humor strongly preferred!
