OVERVIEW: Provides leadership within a design team toward initiating and supporting continuous improvement objectives and developing new products. He/she directs planning & organization, builds prototypes, performs testing and guides the completion of engineering projects within an area of assigned responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and build functional prototypes of next generation wood stoves, gas stoves, and outdoor appliances capable of meeting government safety and emission standards
Research emerging technologies and their applications within our product lines
Contribute to continually improving our established product line
Communication/planning with management team to select and prioritize projects
Create and execute project timelines and direct resources to achieve successful project completions
Stay up to date with regulatory changes / industry issues – communicates these to the company
Completes 3D and 2D documentation of products designed and/or improved
Create and maintain 3D solid models of cast iron, sheet metal, and machined components
Generate owners’ manuals, technical bulletins, and any required supporting documentation related to products
Keep the department manager up to date on status of assigned projects
Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
Prepare interim and completion project reports
Participate in the ECO process
Conduct other duties as assigned
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
Experienced in 7+ years of applied design engineering work; or 10+ years of related experience
Established mechanical engineering aptitude
Fluency with 3D modeling and detailing software, SolidWorks preferred
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with SAP ERP system preferred
Proven project management experience
Strong communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills
General mechanical and metalworking skills
Experience with cast and sheet metal designs highly preferred
Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting up to 70 LBS. This position is located in a manufacturing facility where employees may be subject to loud noise, moving machinery, and various production hazards.
