St. John's in the Mountain's Episcopal Church in Stowe, Vermont is a small, vibrant congregation in search of a Music Director. The Music Director will lead hymns and play preludes and postludes at our 10:00 am Sunday service. Additional services are required during Christmas and Holy Week, the Service of Advent Lessons and Carols in December, and funerals/memorial services. The church has a 7’4” Steinway Model C concert grand and a Baldwin electronic organ. Though the congregation does not have a choir, parish vocalists participate in music leadership. The Music Director will oversee the selection of music in consultation with the priest using the Hymnal 1982 and other hymnals of the Episcopal Church. The Music Director will also assist the parish to learn new hymns from other hymnals and music sources. The Music Director will have the opportunity to serve on the Parish Arts Committee, which stages art exhibits and musical events.
Applicants must have piano training and organ experience. Candidates must have experience leading congregational singing, or a willingness to learn. Helpful skills also include a knowledge of Christian hymns, and the ability to collaborate with clergy and parish leaders and guest musicians.
This is a ten-hour-per-week paid position, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
