Job Title: Technical Assistant (Part-Time)

Company: Robot Optimizers Incorporated

Location: Remote (with occasional on-site work in Morristown, VT)

Robot Optimzers is developing a tennis robot called the Boomer. Dave Jordan is the lead engineer and inventor of the Boomer. We are looking for an assistant to provide technical support for the development process. We have a complete robot system and development workflow. Your job will be to understand, support and modify the development environment as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with a Linux-based systems (specifically the Raspberry Pi). This includes setup, configuration, and troubleshooting. Most systems are headless and accessed through SSH.

Troubleshoot and configure small IP networks. Tasks include setting up interfaces and assigning ips. These networks are used for real time control. Analyze and optimize network performance to maintain very low latency and packet loss.

Configure and utilize VPN services (Tailscale) to access and troubleshoot remote linux systems.

Provide occasional support via desktop sharing tools.

Write and maintain scrips that automate development tasks, such as compiling code and syncing files between systems.

Managing code and files in git repositories, hence familiarity or ability to learn GIT. Currently interaction with github is via Visual Studio Code. It will help to understand C and C code but you won’t have to write much.

Maintaining and adding features to the tennis robot user-interface, which is written in Python using Flask and javascript.

Organizing and searching for files on Google Drive and similar. This is how we store manufacturing documents.

Experience with robotics or real-time control systems.

Hours and Compensation:

Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week (additional hours likely during the initial onboarding phase).

Availability: Respond to most queries within 24 hours on weekdays. Occasionally, you may need to spend several hours troubleshooting something when it breaks.

Compensation: Hourly rate; 60-80/hr depending on experience. Contractor arrangements preferred, though alternative options are possible.
