Vermont Farm Table is currently seeking a Finishing Lead to join our tight knit team of woodworkers. Experience is preferred, however with qualifying skills and a desire to learn VFT will train for longterm success. We craft custom solid wood tables and furniture in Bristol, VT using sustainably sourced eastern hardwoods. All of our pieces are made-to-order with the highest level of quality and attention to detail.
In the role of Finishing Lead you will be responsible for leading daily finishing workflow and process based on several factors including; production timeline, stain process, and dry times to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency. You will apply finishes and stains by various means; wipe-on, brush, spray, etc. in accordance with product specifications. Check product specifications against production cards before all processing steps. You will work closely with the Sanding Team to ensure products and components are sanded properly before applying the appropriate finish. Update and attend to production cards within the VFT Operations Database. Develop custom finish and stain solutions to match client requests and control samples, and maintain a library of custom finishes. Monitor finish material inventory, and maintain the finish room in a clean and organized fashion.
The Finishing Lead reports directly to the Woodshop Foreman, and works with them closely on a daily basis. As with every role within VFT, flexibility is key; you may be asked to work across departments within the production process as needed. Additional responsibilities may include and are not limited to; assisting with assembly, moving production parts/components, assisting in moving completed products within woodshop, assisting in loading trucks, and taking out trash and recycling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned
Lead daily workflow within the Finishing Department; working closely with the Woodshop Foreman
Apply wood finishing products to solid wood tables, bases, and components
Run quality control assessments at the finishing level
Add fasteners, and assemble components
Update production cards within the VFT operational database
Develop custom finish and stain solutions to match client control samples
Maintain detailed record keeping and library of all custom finishes
Monitor finish supply inventory levels and submit purchasing requests as necessary
Maintain and keep the finishing equipment/room clean and organized
REQUIREMENTS
Strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail
Strong time management and multitasking skills
Knowledge of solid wood finishing process is preferred but not required
Knowledge of brush and/or spray equipment application techniques is preferred but not required
Ability to read shop drawings
Ability to lift up to 100lbs
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$22.00/hr starting pay, or based on experience
$500 sign on bonus
