Farm Hand / Cheesemaking Assistant
Vermont Shepherd is a family owned and operated sheep farm and dairy located in Westminster West, Vermont. We have been in operation for over 30 years milking our flock of 200 dairy sheep and making artisanal sheep and mixed milk cheeses. We are a 200 acre farm that practices sustainability and rotational grazing with our sheep.
Job Type: Full time and part time / seasonal positions. Possibility of staying on and becoming a year round employee for the right fit.

Passionate about farming, environmental sustainability and food systems
Experienced in dairy farming / milking as well as in cleaning and sanitation
Duties:
Farm chores including: feeding, pasturemaking, milking, deliveries / milk pickups, tractor work, haying, turning / spreading manure, working farmers’ markets, forestry work
Cheesemaking / sanitation: milking parlor washup, cheesemaking assistance, washup in cheesehouse
Requirements:
Driver’s license and ability to drive manual pickup trucks
Reliable transportation
Ability to speak Spanish preferred
Previous tractor work and comfort with using heavy machinery
Comfortable using a chainsaw and other power tools
Willing to work one weekend day / some holidays
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transport 50 pounds
Ability to be on your feet 6-8 hours a day
Bending, twisting, lifting, walking, running
Ability to work outside in hot summer and cold winter conditions

Pay: $16.50/hour for training with an increase to $17.50 once you are trained. There is plenty of room for upward mobility here as we plan for the future.
