Description

SAIC has an opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer to provide engineering and technical advisory services supporting a Systems Engineering and Integration Office at Fort Belvoir, VA. SAIC seeks an experienced, highly motivated Systems Engineer with polished communication skills and expert organizational abilities. The successful applicant must provide exceptional systems engineering technical expertise and high confidence value-added judgment to advise all levels of government management from local engineer up to the Site Commander. Strong technical and thought leadership helps with the analysis of SE&I topics and subsequent recommendations on courses of action related to data collection, processing and dissemination, infrastructure systems engineering. A proactive attitude in identifying and addressing issues, providing recommendations and communicating with the customer is highly important. Specific job functions include the following:
  • Directly support the government in contributing to their mission success through guidance, counsel and advice.
  • Responsible for system engineering and technical execution of projects that cover hardware/software system development, test and final integration on customer platforms.
  • Provide technical review and assessment of program development and readiness activities. Coordinate recommendations with government stakeholders and support regular program status reviews.
  • Review documents/requirements associated with new activities and/or personnel that plan to come to site and provide analysis and recommendations to government customer.
  • Review documentation, represent government as required in forums that support streamlined delivery of new capabilities and standardization of integration efforts.
  • Ability to quickly craft briefings and talking points for the government with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to interface with senior government representatives through face-to-face meetings, electronic mail and briefings.
  • Establish and maintain close effective coordination with other Divisions, review, document, and track project progress.
  • Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status, brief government and industry as required.
  • Monitor government customer calendars; attend meetings with them if requested. In their absence at meetings, speak on behalf of the government as appropriate.

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) fields is contractually required.

Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus.

Bachelor's STEM degree and 9+ years relevant experience in systems engineering environments required.

Active TS/SCI with current Polygraph required.

Required skills:
  • Extensive operational and systems engineering experience
  • Extensive recent familiarity with NRO missions and organizations preferred
  • Familiarity with systems integration standards and policies
  • Successful track record of project management experience with delivered systems
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, operate effectively with contractor, SETA, FFRDC, and Government teammates
  • Articulate verbal and written communicator; confident in presenting and explaining recommendations and analyses to all levels of seniority
  • Expert user in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint) required
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence
