Position Description
Part-Time, Seasonal Gardener, Lawn Care
$20 an hour plus weekly performance bonus (paid biweekly) .
We are filling MULTIPLE positions.
Business Hours: 7:00 AM - 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday. Most weekends and holidays off. Occasional weekends for delays due to weather, holiday closings, and other delays.
Flexible Scheduling 5 - 8 hours a shift. This is a part-time position, so you are usually scheduled no more than 25 hours per week.
Job Duration: March 10 - November 30, 2025
MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD AND HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD FOR PREVIOUS 3 YEAR PERIOD. DUE TO INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS WE CANNOT MAKE EXCEPTIONS TO THIS.
Typical Job Duties of a Gardener at Uncle Onion's:
This position provides all routine lawn care duties except applying fertilizer and pesticide.
Opportunities available to earn commission (in addition to your normal hourly rate) by knocking on doors to sell our services. This is a small part of the job but a wonderful way to make extra cash and help the business.
Safely perform routine lawn maintenance duties such as, but not limited to:
-Mowing lawns with all-electric equipment.
-Spring and Fall Cleanups.
-Leaf removal.
-Maintain flower beds, such as installing mulch and pulling weeds.
-Trim shrubs, bushes, etc.
-Prune plants and small trees (we do not climb).
-Pressure washing.
You will be trained to safely operate the following equipment:
-Battery-powered ride-on zero turn mowers (ZTR) and walk-behind (push) mowers.
-Battery-powered trimmers, edgers, blowers, etc.
-Various hand tools.
Safely and courteously operate an electric van.
Load and unload equipment from the van.
Manage your route for most efficient use of your time.
Adhere to a tight schedule to complete your route during your scheduled shift.
Maintain equipment.
Keep van and equipment clean and presentable.
Requirements
No experience required. We train everyone, regardless of experience.
Ability to work alone and unsupervised, complete your route during your scheduled hours, and provide outstanding results (clients will complain if your work is subpar).
Maintain a professional image while working to set us apart from all the Chucks in their beat up old trucks.
Provide outstanding customer service.
Use an app on a smart phone (phone provided by us) for timekeeping, route, navigation to jobs, taking photos, recording notes, etc.
This is a physically demanding position, so you need to be able to:
-Lift and carry 50 pounds.
-Push a wheeled piece of equipment weighing up to 200 pounds unassisted up and down a ramp (it's not as hard as it sounds, I promise!).
-Walk long distances on inclines, uneven terrain, and on slippery surfaces.
-Walk up and down a ramp at a 15 degree angle while carrying items.
-Kneel, bend, and stoop for extended periods (while weeding flowerbeds, for example).
-Step into and out of a van, about 2 feet vertical, while carrying tools.
-Work in inclement weather, including heat, cold, and rain.
