Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

The Commissioning Manager will be responsible for confirming the contractor's integrated commissioning of the installed systems in the Aga Khan University Centre building currently under construction. You will verify that the applicable equipment and systems are installed according to the manufacturer's recommendation and to the industry-accepted standards and that they receive adequate operational check-out by the installing contractors.

This position will work virtually for five months and last month for commissioning.

Key responsibilities:

The Commissioning Manager shall be in charge of the entire commissioning team

Responsible for witnessing, verification, and confirmation of all integrated commissioning activities and results so obtained during this process.

Review the adequacy of testing equipment and tools and related results entry forms, and accordingly advise the contractor and all other parties on the timelines and schedules and all necessary technical expertise.

Plan and call for commissioning scoping meetings and other commissioning meetings.

Request and review additional information required to perform commissioning tasks, including O & M materials, start-up, and checkout procedures.

Before start-up, gather and review the current control sequences and interlocks and work with contractor and design engineers until sufficient clarity has been obtained

Review all equipment submittals, applicable to equipment and systems requiring commissioning, for compliance with commissioning needs.

Observe component and system installations. Attend selected planning and job-site meetings to obtain information on construction progress relating to commissioning. Review construction meeting minutes for revisions/substitutions relating to the commissioning process. Assist in resolving any discrepancies.

Reviewing and checking start-up reports and site observation.

Analyze any functional performance trend logs and monitoring data to verify performance.

Coordinate and witness with the Engineer manual functional performance tests performed by installing contractors.

Review as necessary the preparation of the O&M manuals.

Review the contractor’s and commissioning team’s final commissioning report.

Qualifications To be successful in the role:

Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering course

Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a similar role

Experience in commissioning MEP installations and hands-on in design, installation supervision

Able to use measuring equipment associated with the performance of MEP systems in buildings

Knowledge in project analysis, coding and testing Low-Level Controls Systems (PLC) and on-site verification and validation

Must be committed to environmental compliance, workplace safety, and sustainability

Proficient in English in both verbal and written communications

Able to adapt to changing conditions (based on operations)

In top physical condition to endure climbing stairs in a building

Willing to be based in Nairobi, Kenya for one month

Must legally reside in the United States of America
