Special Needs Caregiver

Vacancy expired!

ISO qualified special needs caregiver for my child. In our home. Must have prior experience with children with autism age ranging from 4yr-10yr.

My child is physically and verbally aggressive. When triggered he will engage in hitting, throwing objects at people, spitting in their face and screaming. He has recently had an uptick in using profanity towards staff at school. He is 9 years old and strong. He needs help with daily activities such as eating, bathing and being constantly supervised due to his lack of awareness for his own personal safety and the safety of others. He will elope from the house at any time.

The ideal candidate must be able to calmly cope with being hit multiple times a day and being spit on, especially the face. You must not react in anger. If you react in shock or surprise, he will laugh and do it more. You must not use profanity.

My child needs transportation to and from school.

Duties include but are not limited to:

A. Feeding

Assist my child in eating making sure he eats the full meal without force. Making sure he doesn’t choke on the food and take too much food in the mouth. Holds food in his mouth for long periods of time. Needs reminders to chew his food. Needs reminders to swallow his food. Aversion to tastes and textures. Needs specialized meals prepared for him.

B. Dressing

Physically assist my child with getting dressed. Poor hand strength causes him to not be able to button or zip his clothing. He is unaware of how to properly put on his clothes whether the item is front facing or back facing. He lacks focus and physical ability to preform these tasks on his own.

C. Bathing + Hygiene + Toilet

Needs physical assistance with bathing. My child shows no interest in bathing himself even after being modeled for him. He has extreme sensitivity to his hair being brushed. Brushing his hair takes a very long time as it must be done very slowly. Sometimes his hair is unable to be brushed due to his behaviors of becoming emotionally distraught and having meltdowns.

His hands need to be washed with a rag and soap as often as one does for one’s self. He does not know how to properly clean his own hands with soap.

He needs assistance brushing his teeth. There are some holes in my child’s teeth that catch food and need to be cleaned out specially. He gags during this process. We try not to make him throw up. He requires flossing. He screams, spits and hits when he’s uncomfortable.

My child needs to be brought to the potty to be reminded to use it. He can not wipe himself. He needs supervision and assistance with toileting hygiene.

D. Constant supervision + Other Notes

My child will elope from the house anytime he is unsupervised or supervised. He will run into the middle of the street and lay down in it putting himself in danger of being run over by a car. He has run over to neighbor’s homes and let himself in their doors, back or front, if they are unlocked without stopping to knock or even ask permission from mom or dad. He has tried to climb a neighbor’s fence to gain access to a deep-water pool. The caregiver must be physically capable of running. And strong enough to carefully restrain him if no other option is available. He weighs 70 lbs.

If you use the wrong vocabulary or sneeze or cough or clear your throat, he will scream at you and/or have a meltdown, cry and throw things, hit the wall strongly and spit, especially if this happens when he isn’t expecting it to happen.

E. Community Settings

Community outings are difficult for my child. He will yell at people, spit at people, hit people, run away from parent unexpectedly and won’t return via verbal command (must be physically detained and calmed); will meltdown crying/screaming and lay on the floor; will run toward an exit sometimes making it out the door without parent into oncoming traffic. Community outings must be highly supervised for the safety of others and for my child.
