Magic Toybox is seeking a motivated Linux System Administrator Intern interested in gaining real-world experience with modern Linux environments. This is a six-month, entry-level, no-pay internship focused on hands-on training in core system administration workflows. Interns will support live production systems, assist with infrastructure planning, and work alongside experienced developers and administrators. The position provides structured guidance and practical skill development across multiple operational areas. The role is primarily remote, with occasional hybrid sessions as needed.
What You’ll Learn / Do
Linux server setup, configuration, and hardening
User and account management
Creating and managing cloud servers
Basic network design and troubleshooting
Shell scripting and automation fundamentals
System monitoring, logging, and service management
Firewall basics (UFW, iptables)
Package management and OS updates
Working with Git for deployment workflows
Exposure to virtualization and container environments (KVM, Docker)
Requirements
Must reside within NOVA or Greater Norfolk area of Virginia
Must be free to work in US without restrictions
Must have 20 hours per week available.
Technical background, including degree and/or work experience
Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn
Able to provide at least one reference
Reliable internet connection
Ability to follow instructions and document work clearly
Preferred but Not Required
Some experience in IT, networking, or system administration
Familiarity with Linux (Ubuntu preferred)
CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ (strong preference)
