Overview:
The Starz Program is a children’s dance and fitness enrichment program that provides fun and engaging classes directly to children in schools and childcare centers. We are currently looking for part-time instructors to fill multiple positions in the Richmond area as our program continues to grow. A background in dance or sports/fitness is preferred by not required. Experience working with groups of young children is highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
The position will entail teaching dance (ballet/jazz), sports (t-ball, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and more), cheerleading, and/or other fitness classes in preschools, elementary schools, country clubs, and other types of youth centers across the Richmond area. We are looking for candidates who are able to travel to and teach classes primarily in the West End of Richmond, Short Pump, Wyndham, Mechanicsville, and Midlothian. Most instructors teach approx. 3-8 classes per week, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9am-6pm. We may offer some weekend and more evening classes in 2025. The ideal candidate will maintain a consistent schedule of about 3-8 classes per week throughout a semester or school year, and we also operate programs over the summer.
What we look for in a Starz Instructor:
- Responsible – arrives early to each class, can manage a class of up to 10 students, organized and can keep accurate attendance.
- Professional – neat in appearance, friendly and courteous with partner site staff.
- Enthusiastic – MUST enjoy teaching and working with young children, be able to confidently connect with children primarily ages 3-6.
- Fun – enjoys having FUN with young children, being goofy, using your imagination, and watching children smile all while managing and teaching an effective class.
- Reliable transportation – must have reliable transportation to and from work and a valid driver’s license.
- Organization- Instructors are given a monthly lesson plan and curriculum to follow but will need time to prepare for classes outside of the classroom.
Basic Requirements:
- Proof of a valid driver’s license.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to perform work on-site at partner locations.
- Must be able to lift and carry class equipment and supplies up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to walk, sit, bend, squat, raise arms above head, run short distances, and move around a classroom or similar type space to teach fitness classes and monitor students without limitation.
