For a limited time, hired candidates may be eligible for a $1000.00 signing bonusCashier - Dining Services (part-time) - 501039SUMMARY:The Cashier serves as point-of-first contact for all Dining Services customers. The Cashier greets customers and provides information, and operates a point-of-sale system to conduct cash, credit card, and campus card transactions.RESPONSIBILITIES:In the assigned unit, this position may perform some or all of the following:Operations: Operates point-of-sales system to conduct cash, credit card, departmental charges, and SpiderCard transactions. Follows established cash-handling procedures.Follows established procedures to ensure an adequate on-hand supply of cash and change.Sorts, counts, and wraps currency and coins.Maintain logs, as directed.Maintains a clean and orderly cashier station.Maintains cleanliness of lobby area; picks up trash in lobby; cleans dining rooms as required.Manages daily cleaning, stocking, and organizing for all equipment, storeroom, and sales floor. Stores stock items according to established procedures.Counts, receives, and verifies deliveries against invoices to ensure accuracy. Examines and inspects stock items for wear, defects, damage, or unsafe handling. Conducts inventories. Reports all discrepancies. Transports stock, as necessary.Monitors and records temperatures of foods stored in refrigeration and heating equipment to ensure safe temperatures.Trains new employees.Performs other duties, as assigned.Customer Service:Greets customers; provides prompt, courteous service to all customers and resolves their questions or needs.Answers telephone and assists callers.Enforces general Dining Services regulations.Communicates any customer or operational needs to managers. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT: This position requires long periods of standing and walking, and the ability to lift 50 lbs., in conditions that are often, hot, humid, or cold. Must be able to safely use and operate typical kitchen tools and equipment. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, on occasion.Youth age 16 and 17 are not permitted to operate, feed, set-up, adjust, repair or clean hazardous equipment, e.g., chopping or slicing machines, commercial mixers, power driven bakery machines, trash compactor, etc.QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of basic mathematics.Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to learn software.Ability to efficiently and accurately operate point-of-sale register systems.Skilled in reading and written and verbal communication.Ability to use effective time management to accomplish tasks.Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.Ability to exercise flexibility and to work calmly and efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.Ability to provide a high level of customer service.Ability to maintain established quality control standards.Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team.Must possess a current Virginia driver's license with a driving record in good standing. (This is dependent on the assigned unit.)EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED required or in the process of pursing a high school diploma or GED which must be obtained within 2 years of date of hire.One years' cashier experience preferred.WORK HOURS:Part-time, non-exempt position4:00 - 6:30 p.m weekdays; every other weekend off; approx. 20 hours per week, less than 1,000 hours per year This position is designated as essential personnel and, during inclement weather and emergency situations is required to be available to the University as needed.
