Horticulturist Greenhouse Sales
The role of horticulturist is to enlighten and enrich plant knowledge within a garden center setting. This is a retail position with direct customer interaction and often doubles as a sales position. The goal of the horticulturist is to educate the customer on proper plant and landscape care and discuss a plan for success in their endeavors.
Duties & Responsibilities
⢠Deep understanding of and knowledge of plants and their needs
⢠Ability to ID and treat any plant-based pests or diseases
⢠Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
⢠Pro-active, hard-working, and punctual
⢠Proper pruning and planting skills
⢠Willingness and ability to learn
⢠Must be energetic, motivated, hardworking, honest, reliable, and responsible.
⢠Must follow up with customer requests, questions and explanations
⢠Must understand and explain customer soil testing
⢠Thorough knowledge of indoor and outdoor plant cultivation and maintenance
⢠Assist in retail sales, displays, loading and unloading of plant material
⢠Assist in watering and plant maintenance, including proper pesticide and herbicide application
Experience & Education
⢠1+ years professional plant experience or equivalent horticultural degree
⢠3-5 years related work experience
⢠VA Certified Horticulturist or Master Gardener certification preferred
Physical Requirements
⢠Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying temperatures; shifts will also be outside
⢠Ability to exert up to 15-50 pounds occasionally
⢠Ability to crouch, grasp and lift products above shoulders in order to lift product properly
⢠Ability to be on feet while performing job responsibilities
⢠Ability to get up and down throughout work shift
Schedule
⢠25-36 hours/week
⢠Willingness to work on weekends
⢠$16-$18/hr
