Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsible for diagnosis of mechanical failures, execution of required repairs, rebuilds, routine service delivery for Cranemasters preventative maintenance program and providing emergency repairs in the event of a vehicle/equipment failure that occurs in the field. Ensures that all work is performed with emphasis on safety and quality.

Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner so as to protect employees and the assets of the Company.

Essential Functions:

1. Adheres to Cranemasters safety policies and procedures. Actively participates in daily job/work briefing.

2. Applies mechanical skills/knowledge to diagnose/troubleshoot mechanical failures, following standard procedures completes complex repairs/rebuilds/modifications. Performs other maintenance tasks as required to ensure the safe and reliable operation of Cranemasters vehicles and equipment including: cranes, dozers, excavators, trucks, diesel engines, etc.

3. Performs preventative maintenance in compliance with Cranemasters PM program. Utilizes knowledge and experience accessing mechanical conditions, recommends repair/replacement of parts/belts, etc., performs work after obtaining approvals.

4. Timely and accurately completes required documentation such as work orders, time sheets, warranty claims, quality/inspection documents, PM documentation, etc. Records detailed information as required including mileage, hours, date and work/repair description. Ensures that documentation is legible and understandable.

5. Routes requests for emergency repairs to the Shop Foreman/Manager to ensure priority assignments are not interrupted.

6. Proactive team member providing and supporting the training of other mechanics in accomplishment of administrative duties in addition to technical tasks.

7. Maintains a clean/safe work area, assists team members in maintaining the cleanliness of the shop, ensures that tools are in good repair and returned to designed location when work has been completed.

8. Completes required training for safety procedures, enhancement of technical skills and professional development.

9. Other duties as assigned.

Required Travel: As may be required for delivery of services in the event of an equipment failure that occurs in the field/job site; set-up and field testing, warranty work after delivery, as well as other travel to/from Cranemasters locations, training, seminars and meetings.

Required Skills and Experience:

1. Education to include: High School Diploma/GED AND trade school/or dealership/factory service training in diesel mechanical repair/maintenance that would be equivalent to an Associate’s degree and five years of on-hands repair and maintenance of heavy equipment; professional certifications related to maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (ASE). DOT and FMCSA knowledge/experience preferred. Possession of state/federal inspection license preferred.

2. Drive for achieving results, ability to carry out tasks with sense of urgency.

3. Capable of understanding and following directions.

4. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

5. Strong communication and organization skills.

6. Proficient computer skills. Must be able to complete and maintain maintenance/service records, complete purchase orders/work orders, etc.

7. Must possess a valid drivers’ license with good driving record; preference for possession of Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

8. Display strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.

9. Able to read, write and speak English

10. Must pass qualification tests as required (includes E-Rail Safe and other training/safety programs).

11. Must meet 24/7 availability in order to respond to emergency calls for service including weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands:

1. Constant bending / twisting / stooping / walking / talking / sitting / standing / kneeling / climbing / bending / carrying materials/parts

2. May work in a variety weather conditions.

3. Working extended hours.

4. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.

5. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement.
