CUSTODIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

Definition: Under the supervision of the Minister, the custodian will provide custodial care for the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and will open the facility on Sundays.

RELATIONSHIPS:

The Custodian will work with all members of the church staff and report directly to the Pastor.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Open and close the facility each Sunday

Lock and unlock appropriate doors on Sunday mornings and on Sunday afternoons after worship

Check and adjust heating/cooling thermostats as appropriate for the season. Make sure the AC is turned on before the worship service in the summer and the heating in the winter

Turn on/off all lighting for worship services

Check all restrooms for cleanliness and adequate supplies (toilet tissue, paper towels, etc.) before the arrival of any church members and prior to closing the facility for the day.

Cleaning Supplies

Maintain an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies

Cleaning

Assume full responsibility for maintenance and cleanliness (to include vacuuming weekly, dusting twice a month, and emptying trash weekly, and other responsibilities)

Garbage

To be made ready for pickup on designated day.

Weddings

Extra $250.00 for cleanups after weddings.

Other duties

May be assigned by the Pastor as needed.

Communication is expected with the pastor each week for the first three months on a weekly basis about cleaning needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Education/Experience)

High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Previous experience with custodial duties preferred.

Able to perform the duties with minimal supervision.

Passed background check required

WORK HOURS:

Part time position — 25 hours per week

Sunday hours dependent on times of Sunday services

Hours flexible for cleaning (Performance of duties are not to interfere with activities scheduled at the church.)

BENEFITS:

One week paid vacation for first 6 months, two weeks paid vacation after 6 months. Three weeks after 5 years. Four weeks off after 10 years.

Social Security deducted

Mileage reimbursed for essential travel at $.55 per mile.

EVALUATION:

The Staff Parish Relations Committee with the employee present will conduct an annual performance evaluation of the job performance and accuracy of the job description.
