Title: Southwest Virginia Trail Crew
Position Timeline: June 10 - August 20 (11 weeks)
Pay Rate: $300/week + AmeriCorps education award
Status: Seasonal/Temporary
Appalachian Conservation Corps is seeking applicants for multiple seasonal Trail Crew positions during Summer 2019. The position would involve working on conservation service projects across Southwest Virginia and beyond for long periods of time in remote locations. Projects include trail building and maintenance, invasive species removal, habitat restoration, general maintenance, ecological restoration and much more on public and private lands as contracted. Training is provided.
Crews live, work, and learn outdoors, camped out in the field for 9 days at a time followed by 5 days off. Work schedule is subject to change based on project partner needs. This position would be based out of Harrisonburg, VA, but local participants may be based out of Abingdon for several hitches. Crews travel to the project site and camp on location for 9 days at a time. Food is provided while in the field, though crewmembers are responsible for providing their own personal outdoor equipment (tent, sleeping bag, etc.). Members are also responsible for providing their own housing when not in the field.
Gain experience in natural resource conservation, earn an education award, and serve the local area.
No previous experience is necessary. A love for the outdoors, strong work ethic, and drive to give back to the community and the environment is required.
