Job Summary: (Level II)

Serve as Linux Server Administrator with responsibility of participating and assisting in assessing and maintaining Linux Servers within the NEXCOM Enterprise environment. Assist higher level Linux Server Administrator in performing information systems assessments and reports. Includes working with stakeholders in connection with NEXCOMs strategy processes information and security posture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists and Participates in the following as assigned:

- Supporting Linux Server Administrator in maintaining and submitting IAVM program compliance.

- Troubleshoots Linux server and OS issues. Independently utilizes all available resources (knowledge bases, online resources, etc.) to ensure timely resolution of server issues.

- Develops operating procedures for system administration activities including system monitoring, performance tuning, backup/recovery, server architecture design and system maintenance.

- Review and document security assessments of computing environments through the SSR process to identify points of non-compliance with established Information Assurance (IA) standards and regulations.

- Follows operating procedures and utilizes established support tools for analysis and reporting requirements.

- Builds and configures virtual systems utilizing VMWare, Oracle Virtual Manager and Red Hat KVM.

- Supports POS servers and registers at NEX location around the world.

- Work is performed under the direction and guidance of higher level Linux Server Administrator.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Upon completion of one year service in this position the incumbent may progress noncompetitively to the position of Information Technology Specialist (Computer Specialist/Linux Server Administrator Level II), NF-9031-04 (417) as determined by management based on the incumbents performance proficiency.

2. Per SECNAVINST 1543.2, Cyber IT/CSWF individuals shall participate annually in 40 hours of continuous learning (CL) activities to be documented in a current individual development plan (IDP) signed by both the employee and supervisor.

- Executes a planned program of virus updates, patch and service pack management, including testing, deployment staging, and documentation. Install, maintain and manage Linux OS, DNS, HBSS, and other servers for automated updates.

- Performs regular system maintenance, hardware and software upgrades, physical to virtual migrations and performance tuning.

- Builds and configures virtual systems utilizing VMWare, Oracle Virtual Manager and Red Hat KVM.

- Supports POS servers and registers at NEX location around the world.

- Interfaces with Network Engineers, Storage Engineers, Database Administrators and Application Teams to optimize systems use and configuration.

- Actively participates in project planning to ensure timely and successful completion of projects assigned to Linux server team.

- Ensure/implement the rigorous application of Information Security/Information Assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of Systems, Applications and/or Services (Hardware & Software).

- Installs and executes the STIG scripts and implements system security controls as required. Reviews DISAs Linux Server Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Checklists for guidance. Implements Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards and requirements as mandated on Linux Servers.

- Implements RMF/IA controls as required.

- Provide on-call 24 x 7 support on a rotating basis.

- Work is performed at the Journeymen level with minimal oversight and direction.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Performs regular system maintenance, hardware and software upgrades, physical to virtual migrations and performance tuning.

- Builds and configures virtual systems utilizing VMWare, Oracle Virtual Manager and Red Hat KVM.

- Supports POS servers and registers at NEX location around the world.

- Actively participates in project planning to ensure timely and successful completion of projects assigned to Linux server team.

- Ensure/implement the rigorous application of Information Security/Information Assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of Systems, Applications and/or Services (Hardware & Software).

SUBSTITUTION OF EXPERIENCE FOR EDUCATION: One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience up to a maximum of a 4 year Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology or related field for 3 years of general experience.

AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience in at least two of the following:
Linux Server Administration supporting a variety of business applications (monitoring, tuning, backup/recovery, configuration, documentation); Virtualization with VMWare ESXi Virtual Center or other Linux hypervisor; Networking services for Directory, DNS, DHCP for devices and users in a worldwide WAN; Active Directory PKI authentication and protocols for certificate/smartcard revocation; Linux server implementation and configuration (O/S load, patch updates, application load and configuration); Supporting a variety of application within the Linux server environment (business applications, databases, web services, messaging, monitoring tools, etc.)
