This position is located in Edinburg, VA.
As a School-Based Paraprofessional, you are expected to perform in a flexible manner based on the particular needs of your student. The following is a basic list of the 1:1s responsibilities:
- Provides constant support and supervision to the student; meet upon arrival and remain in close proximity throughout the school day in all settings;
- Keeps student within sight, sound and supervision at all times;
- Works under the direction of the classroom teacher (both general and exceptional education); providing support with the implementation of academic and behavioral goals in adherence with the students current IEP and BIP;
completes daily data collection to student plans, charting frequency and duration of behaviors in relation to behavioral goals;
- Assists the student with transitions and adaptations between subjects and classes;
- Provides support to students; including redirection, completion of all work assignments, planning and organizational skills;
- Utilizes strategies to assist the student in developing positive coping skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution for inappropriate behaviors exhibited throughout the school day;
- Assists the student in developing positive peer/adult relationships and fostering communication skills, by demonstrating and implementing the school district student code of conduct;
- Motivates the student to be successful and responsible by providing behavioral, emotional, physical, social, and educational support, serving as a foundation for meeting IEP and BIP goals;
participates in meetings concerning the student including child study, IEP, BIP and manifestation meetings as deemed appropriate;
- Develops positive working relationship with all school personnel, providing weekly feedback to school designee regarding student progress;
- Provides monthly report of student progress towards BIP goals to accompany monthly invoices;
- Reports all student absences and track attendance of students in accordance with the contract requirements;
- Performs other duties essential to the positive development of the exceptional education student.
Dominion Youth Services mandates that all School-Based Paraprofessionals meet the following requirements:
- Collegiate level education in the area of behavioral science, special education, or human services (preferred), - and/or significant experience working with at-risk youth and/or children/adults with disabilities;
- Knowledge and demonstration of basic counseling techniques and behavioral problem solving, and anger management techniques in their daily lives in all settings;
- Willingness to commit to the student every day for the entire school year and/or summer term;
- Exceptional attendance record
- Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations;
- Desire to work in a team-based setting, maintaining daily communications with staff and assisting with the academic and functional instruction under the direction of the teacher;
- Value all students and hold them in high, unconditional positive regard and be committed to their care and well-being;
- Flexibility to adapt your role to tailor to the students needs as well as the classroom environment, working closely with the teacher to problem solve when the student is experiencing behavioral or learning challenges;
- Present oneself in a professional manner by modeling appropriate language, dress, and punctuality; and
will respect and comply with all school guidelines and requests in compliance with the school code of conduct for students and staff; and
- Pass background screenings (CPS, state police and fingerprinting conducted upon hire and on a yearly basis. A felony conviction will be grounds for immediate termination.
