Lot Attendant / Entry-Level Mechanic – Used Car Dealership

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and dependable Lot Attendant / Entry-Level Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for managing vehicles from purchase through preparation for sale. The ideal candidate will be hands-on with detailing, performing light mechanical work, assisting with diagnostics, photographing vehicles, and ensuring that the lot is well-organized and visually appealing at all times. A key duty will be to make sure all vehicles are ready for Virginia State Safety Inspection before being offered for sale.

Key Responsibilities:

Vehicle Preparation & Maintenance

o Perform basic mechanical repairs and maintenance (oil changes, brakes, suspension, air conditioning, etc.).

o Conduct vehicle diagnostics and report findings to management.

o Ensure vehicles are safe, clean, and in top condition for resale.

o Inspect and prepare all vehicles to meet Virginia State Safety Inspection requirements.

Detailing & Presentation

o Wash, vacuum, and detail vehicles inside and out.

o Touch up and polish vehicles for display quality.

o Take professional photos of vehicles for online listings.

Inventory Management

o Track vehicles from acquisition through reconditioning until ready for sale.

o Maintain records of service, repairs, and detailing work completed.

o Coordinate with the office and sales team regarding vehicle readiness.

Lot Organization

o Ensure vehicles are parked neatly and displayed attractively.

o Keep the lot clean, organized, and safe for customers and employees.

o Regularly check vehicles for cleanliness, battery charge, and overall condition.

General Support

o Assist with transporting vehicles to/from auction, vendors, or DMV as needed.

o Support dealership operations by performing additional tasks assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in basic automotive repair and auto detailing.

Familiarity with tools and equipment for oil changes, brake service, and general automotive work.

Strong attention to detail with pride in workmanship.

Ability to multitask and keep track of multiple vehicles in inventory.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Work Environment & Schedule:

Full-time position with standard dealership hours (Saturdays are required).

Work is primarily outdoors on the lot with shop/garage work as needed.
