Compensation: $29-$34/hr, D.O.E.

Bellingham Professional Finishes is a full-service painting and wood coatings company. We specialize in finishes for woodworking, including smaller scale projects such as cabinets, timbers, decks, exterior millwork and other custom home components to large scale mass-timber projects. We offer both on-site and pre-finish services and we are committed to using sustainable products that are environmentally responsible.

Summary and Objective

The Shop Manager is responsible for managing all facets of the Company’s shop operations and pre-finish services. Working in tandem with the rest of the management team and other staff members, the Shop Manager will guide the success of Bellingham Professional Finishes’ shop operations and pre-finish division, while ensuring processes and systems are maintained, managed, and improved as needed to increase performance and efficiency.

The actual duties that are performed, rather than managed, will vary depending on the needs of the company at any given time. The person that fills this role will be expected to engage in a hands-on role to assist them to gain a full understanding of BPF’s shop and pre-finish needs and processes during the training period, and for as long as necessary to best perform their responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

o Initial client contact.

o Job procurement / job assessment.

o All client communications and updates.

o Product & color consultations.

o Providing estimates for projects.

o Scheduling (incoming, production, outgoing for all projects).

o Communicating project details to President and other managers, as needed

o Maintaining budgets on projects and monitoring job profitability.

o Has/develops a solid foundational knowledge of processes, techniques, tools, products and materials used by the company.

o Is able to identify various types of surfaces along with BPF accepted procedures and products to prep, treat, and finish them with in correlation to the clients desired aesthetic and protection

o Uses data sheets and other resources to understand uses, limitations and safety hazards of all products used, as needed.

o Develops thorough knowledge of all coatings (required prep, application, physical properties, best use in accordance with manufacturer’s specs, etc).

STAFF MANAGEMENT

o Creates daily workflow plans that integrates each of the current projects for all shop staff members, by setting up the schedule and processes with shop staff each morning to ensure that details are known, timelines are upheld, processes are communicated, and that quality is maintained throughout each project.

o Ensures that staff are logging time accurately to each project.

o Ensures that the shop is able to match control samples prior to fully moving into any given project.

o Performs continued check-ins with shops to ensure projects are being accurately and efficiently completed.

o Responsible for lining up all temp help needed on projects and full management of those individuals.

OPERATIONS

o Works independently and with the President and other staff members to ensure that operational needs that support work in the pre-finish facilities are satisfied in a timely and efficient manner.

o Responsible for inventory management of tools and supplies in pre-finish facilities.

o Responsible for all coatings details for pre-finish projects, including procurement of products.

o Regularly coordinates shop organization and cleanliness.

o Oversees and/or schedules repairs and maintenance of tools, equipment, and facilities.

o Responsible for performing or overseeing all packaging, shipping, receiving of millwork.

o Demonstrates ability to critically think about placement of racks, incoming/outgoing orders, finished material, products, etc, and orchestrates accordingly.

o Upholds NWCAA compliance:

- Responsible for maintaining all required records.

- Ensures that spray booth logs are available and filled out daily.

- Hosts annual inspections.

o Ensuring that LNI and OSHA safety requirements are upheld with the facilities.

o All other operational needs as they arise.

Required Skills and Experience

2+ years related experience in construction and management.

2+ years related experience in managing budgets.

Acute attention to detail.

Time management.

Organizational skills.

Ability to lead, instruct, and coordinate others.

Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and positive manner, as well as establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, contractors, and other team members.

Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the finishing trade.

Ability to accurately estimate supplies and materials needed for jobs.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets

Physically able to perform a variety of manual labor tasks.

Valid Driver License and reliable transportation

Forklift experience preferred.
