The Haven Preschool, a Waldorf-inspired in-home preschool program is hiring an Assistant Teacher for the 2025-26 school year! The Haven Preschool is taught by a Certified Waldorf Teacher, and is located in the Happy Valley neighborhood, a short stroll from Fairhaven. The position is considered a "paid internship" - the Assistant Teacher will have the opportunity to learn about the Waldorf Early Childhood philosophy and will have hands-on learning within a Waldorf classroom.
ASSISTANT TEACHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-assists the lead teacher throughout the school day
-offers social/emotional support for 12 preschoolers (3-6 year olds)
-ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds
-ability to stay calm in loud or busy moments
-assists with setting up and cleaning up daily activities/crafts
-light cleaning (dishes, sweep floor, clean lunch table, etc)
-assist in supervising daily outdoor play (rain or shine)
The Waldorf philosophy is deeply practiced within The Haven Preschool. It is essential that the Assistant Teacher be willing to learn and implement the Waldorf philosophy within the classroom (which may differ from most mainstream preschools). This includes: learning Waldorf song, verse, games, wearing a teacher apron, not interrupting children during play, limiting adult conversation within the classroom, limited or no cell phone use, wearing plain clothing (no obvious drawings/logos), no perfume, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
-commitment for entire school year (mid-Sep 2025 to mid-June 2026)
-shifts are M-W 9:15am - 1:15pm (4 hrs)
-pass a background check
-CPR/First Aid Certified
-some experience with young children
-willingness to learn the Waldorf philosophy
COMPENSATION:
-$19-21 per hour depending on experience
-1099 employment
