Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for a Residence Life Coordinator.

The Residence Life Coordinator provides leadership, supervision, and coordination to Whatcom Community College’s (WCC) Housing and Residence Life Education Program. This is a live-in position in Whatcom’s new residence hall working evening, weekend, and holiday on-call duties. The Residence Life Coordinator will facilitate the creation of an inclusive community and support in a living and learning environment for 230 student residents. Reporting to the Director for Community Standards and Residence Life, the Coordinator works in partnership with the residence life team and key campus stakeholders to create innovative residence life educational programming, services, and support to residents and the campus community.

A successful candidate will…

-Provide coordination and support for the Residence Life program and advance support and success for diverse students in a living and learning environment.

-Lead, supervise, and evaluate resident advisors.

-Develop effective collaboration with key campus and community stakeholders to grow enrollments and implement high impact residence life education practices.

-Demonstrate equity, diversity, and inclusion in all support and practices.

Responsibilities

This is a live-in position requiring evening, weekend, and holiday on-call duties. Scheduled hours include a weekly schedule with evening/overnight on call duties, and weekend on call rotation.

-Assist the Director in development, implementation, and assessment of residence life education programs; facilitate the development of a sense of community among the residents and staff.

-Assist with the implementation of Residence Life protocols and practices and provide opportunities for modeling, educating, encouraging student accountability and compliance.

-Work closely with students and staff to resolve complex student housing challenges.

-Collaborate with Residence Life team to develop and implement outcomes and strategies that assist students living in residence hall to adjust to and navigate campus life.

-Collaborate with key campus departments that impact daily housing experiences for residents.

-Attend and participate in department, staff, unit, division, and committee meetings.

-Assist with move-in and move-out processes; conduct weekly walk-through of the residence hall, assessing for safety issues and other areas of improvement.

-Participate and lead in RA after-hours and weekend on-call duty rotation, provide trauma-informed crisis intervention when needed, and deliver appropriate information for reporting and following up.

-Co-administer WCC’s Housing Occupation Management and Housing Conduct systems

-Communicate frequently with Campus Safety and Security as well as the Office for Community Standards to maintain consistent enforcement of policies and timely adjudication of violations of community standards; ensure documentation of all incidents and violations of the housing contract and community standards.

-Recruit, hire, supervise, provide ongoing training, and evaluate the work of Resident Advisors (RAs); Coordinate, implement, and assess a comprehensive pre-move-in RA training program.

-Develop and implement operating procedures, work plans, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

-Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Director for Community Standards and Residence Life.

Minimum Qualifications:

-An associate degree with work experience in housing, education, and/or social work.

-Experience developing and collaborating on programming, events, and activities.

-Demonstrated supervisory experience.

-Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment, inclusive of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender/sexuality, and ethnic backgrounds and identities.

-CPR certification will be required within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with work experience in housing, education, and/or social work.

-Demonstrated ability to respond to high-risk situations.

-Demonstrated experience in education or social services.

Salary and Appointment:

-This is a 12 month, full-time Administrative/Exempt position. Exempt from Washington State civil service law with an annual salary of $30,000 plus living accommodations valued at $20K.

-Compensated assigned housing in a 2 bedroom/one bath partially furnished unit equipped with a full kitchen, dishwasher, and washer/dryer, including utilities (water, sewer, electric, internet, cable TV).

-Private entrance.

-$80 monthly cell phone stipend.

-Assigned parking space in secure parking lot.
