Bellingham Technical College is establishing a pool for the current 2024-2025 academic year for positions in the Culinary Program and/or Food Services for dishwasher(s).
These are temporary, hourly assignments. Hours are not guaranteed and assignments are based on the needs of the department. The work schedule is generally during the Monday through Friday work-week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 3 -6 hours per day, up to 15 hours per week, during the academic year, September 2024 through June, 2025. Hours may vary quarterly depending on lab schedules. Reports to the Culinary Arts Instructor.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate the dishwasher to wash dishes, pots, and preparation utensils, and sanitizes the dish room;
Set up and break down the Cafeteria and Conference Rooms;
Lead and direct students in the operation of the dish room;
Collect and dispose of garbage in the dumpsters;
Monitor, collect, and prepare materials for recycling;
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor/designee.
Qualifications:
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications and Essential Tasks:
Possession of or eligible for a food handler's permit;
Dishwasher/food service experience preferred;
Knowledge of sanitation and safe work practices;
Demonstrated ability to read directions, i.e., manuals and communicate through written and spoken work;
Ability to work under timelines and tight deadlines;
Recent experience in dishwasher operation preparation preferred;
Demonstrated ability to interact positively with co-workers and students in a training situation.
Physical Work Environment:
Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation to include, but not be limited to: working in an environment that requires operating equipment/machinery where reaching high and stooping low, bending and twisting, and manual dexterity are necessary functions. Requires the ability to lift and carry on a regular basis: tables, chairs, and other items weighing as much as fifty pounds. Requires being mobile on your feet 100% of the assigned shift; working with strong cleaning agents and hot water are also required.

Compensation:
Effective July 1, 2024, hourly rate is $18.70. Additional benefits include some paid sick leave in accordance with Washington State law and Initiative I-1433. Sick leave is accrued at 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a free counseling & referral program. Potential flexible schedule; No additional benefits.
